Psychological Testing & Assessment in Bentonville, AR
A plain-language guide to formal psychological testing — what it is, when a full battery is the right tool, and how to find a qualified provider in Northwest Arkansas. ZipHealthy is a licensed psychotherapy practice and does not currently offer formal psychometric testing; under Ark. Code Ann. §17-97-101 et seq., that service is reserved to licensed psychologists. If a battery is the right next step for you, we’re happy to refer you to a Licensed Clinical Psychologist (PhD/PsyD) we trust.
Formal psychological testing is a structured set of standardized instruments — cognitive measures, personality inventories, behavioral rating scales, and where appropriate continuous-performance tasks — administered and interpreted by a Licensed Clinical Psychologist (PhD or PsyD) to answer a specific clinical or accommodations question. It is one tool among several. For many common questions, an experienced licensed clinician can reach a confident DSM-5-TR diagnosis through a thorough clinical interview combined with validated screening instruments (Youngstrom et al., 2017, Clinical Psychology: Science and Practice). A full battery becomes the right tool when the question is more specific — ADA accommodations, IEP/504 documentation, court-ordered evaluation, complex differential diagnosis where interview alone has been inconclusive, or post-injury neuropsychological screening.
This page is a plain-language guide. The remainder describes what a formal evaluation typically involves, when it is and isn’t indicated, and what to expect if you decide to seek one. ZipHealthy does not deliver formal testing in-house; we are happy to refer to a Licensed Clinical Psychologist if a battery is the right next step.

Autism Spectrum Assessment
Thorough evaluation using ADOS-2, ADI-R, and cognitive measures to assess autism spectrum characteristics across the lifespan for children, teens, and adults (Hus & Lord, 2014).
Learning Disability Testing
Academic achievement and cognitive ability testing to identify specific learning disabilities (dyslexia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia) and recommend accommodations.
Personality & Cognitive Testing
In-depth personality assessment (MMPI-3, PAI) and cognitive/neuropsychological screening to inform treatment planning and self-understanding.

When you go to a Licensed Clinical Psychologist for formal testing, the process is usually three stages: intake, testing sessions, and a feedback meeting. The exact length and battery depend on the referral question.
Initial Consultation
A 60–90 minute intake where the psychologist discusses your concerns, reviews relevant history, and determines which assessments fit your referral question.
Testing Sessions
Several hours of standardized assessment (often spread across 2–3 sessions), including cognitive, behavioral, personality, and condition-specific measures. Total time depends on the question and battery.
Feedback & Report
A feedback session walking through results, diagnoses, and personalized recommendations. A detailed written report typically follows within 2–3 weeks.
When a formal evaluation is worth the time
For specific questions — ADA accommodations, IEP/504 documentation, court-ordered evaluation, complex differential diagnosis where interview alone has been inconclusive, or post-injury cognitive screening — a structured battery can surface information that a clinical interview may not capture on its own. Decades of research across more than 125 meta-analyses indicate that psychological test validity is comparable to medical test validity, and that combining a clinical interview with standardized testing typically yields the most complete picture1. For many other questions, an experienced licensed clinician using a thorough interview together with validated screening instruments may already have what is needed for an accurate, defensible DSM-5-TR diagnosis.
