AUDIT-C Alcohol Use Self-Check

AUDIT-C Alcohol Use Self-Check

A free, confidential 3-question screen for risky drinking patterns, developed from the WHO AUDIT.

About This Assessment

The AUDIT-C is a 3-item screen derived from the World Health Organization’s Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT). It identifies drinking patterns that may be hazardous to your health or suggest an alcohol use disorder. A "standard drink" means a 12 oz beer, 5 oz glass of wine, or 1.5 oz shot of liquor. This check takes about 1 minute.

Instructions: Answer about your alcohol use over the past year. Select the answer that best describes your experience.

Clinical Interpretation Required

The AUDIT-C screens for hazardous drinking patterns; it does not diagnose alcohol use disorder. Standard cut-points are 3+ for women and 4+ for men. Discuss your results with a healthcare professional for proper interpretation — and never stop heavy regular drinking abruptly without medical guidance.

No Provider-Patient Relationship

Completing this assessment does not create a therapeutic or provider-patient relationship with ZipHealthy or its clinicians.

About the AUDIT-C

The AUDIT-C is the 3-question consumption subset of the World Health Organization’s 10-item Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test, validated by Bush and colleagues for routine screening. It asks about drinking frequency, typical quantity, and heavy-episode frequency over the past year. Scores of 3+ (women) or 4+ (men) suggest a pattern worth discussing with a professional; higher scores suggest greater risk.
